What You Will Do
As Internal IT Manager, you will shape the internal IT foundation that enables ILIAS to grow, innovate and operate securely. Your mission covers strategy, infrastructure, automation, digital workplace, developer enablement, operational excellence, security implementation and supplier management.
Shape the IT Roadmap and Infrastructure Direction
- Translate the IT vision into annual roadmaps, investment plans and clear priorities that guide day-to-day execution.
- Define target architectures for endpoints, servers, cloud services, identity and developer platforms.
- Align IT capabilities with business growth, product innovation and operational needs.
- Drive digital transformation, infrastructure modernization and technology improvement initiatives.
- Use your infrastructure knowledge to guide decisions, challenge proposals and set direction without needing to be hands-on in every tool.
- Collaborate with IFED IT in the USA to identify synergies, align where relevant and strengthen the broader technology foundation across the organization.
Build Reliable, Efficient and Scalable IT Operations
- Own the availability, performance and reliability of internal IT services.
- Establish measurable service KPIs and continuous improvement programs.
- Standardize documentation, incident management, change management, problem management and day-to-day operational processes.
- Bring structure and maturity to internal IT while staying close enough to the operational reality to remove blockers and support the team.
Modernize Through Automation and Platform Thinking
- Lead an automation-first approach across internal IT.
- Reduce recurring manual work through automation, self-service platforms and workflow improvements that make IT services faster, more consistent and easier to scale.
- Introduce configuration-as-code and infrastructure-as-code principles where they add value.
- Drive endpoint, server and cloud automation initiatives.
- Explore AI and workflow automation where they create practical business or operational value.
- Identify automation opportunities across infrastructure, endpoint management, service delivery and employee self-service.
Improve the Digital Workplace and Employee Experience
- Deliver a modern digital workplace for office workers, developers and traveling employees.
- Own the endpoint strategy for Windows, macOS and mobile devices.
- Ensure smooth onboarding, productivity tooling and collaboration platforms.
- Improve the employee experience through workplace services and self-service capabilities that are easy to use and reliable.
Enable Product Engineering and Developer Productivity
- Help developers work efficiently in secure, frictionless environments that support productivity without compromising compliance.
- Support Windows, Linux, WSL, Docker and cloud-native development platforms.
- Partner with Product Engineering to continuously improve developer onboarding, environment provisioning and day-to-day working experience.
Manage Infrastructure, Cloud and Business Continuity
- Manage hybrid infrastructure environments and ensure services are scalable, resilient and maintainable.
- Drive adoption of Linux and cloud-native platforms where appropriate.
- Oversee backup, disaster recovery and business continuity capabilities.
- Make informed architectural, operational and vendor decisions based on a strong understanding of current infrastructure technologies.
Implement Secure and Compliant Technology Services
- Implement security controls defined by the Security Office.
- Ensure secure operation of identity, endpoint and infrastructure platforms.
- Support ISO, NIS2, CMMC, DFARS and other compliance initiatives.
- Ensure controls are operational, measurable and auditable.
- Act as the primary partner of the CISO for operational security implementation.
Manage Suppliers, Services and Technology Value
- Manage strategic technology partners and managed service providers.
- Optimize licensing, contracts and vendor performance.
- Govern service quality and ensure technology partners deliver value.
- Manage the internal IT budget and ensure technology investments, licensing, contracts and vendor partnerships are aligned with business priorities and long-term value.
- Make sure technology investments are aligned with business outcomes.
Lead with Clarity, Ownership and Technical Awareness
As Internal IT Manager, you translate business objectives into clear technology roadmaps, improve reliability through measurable outcomes, reduce manual work through automation and embed security by design in day-to-day operations.
You will lead a current internal IT team of four full-time employees, with plans to grow the team further as the organization continues to scale. You bring clarity, structure and direction while helping the team develop its capabilities and maturity.
You also lead, coach and further develop the internal IT team and external partners with confidence, clarity and ownership. You create structure, set priorities and move comfortably between strategic priorities and detailed technical or operational discussions.
What You Bring
The ideal candidate brings the experience and confidence to guide direction, support the team and stay close to the technical reality behind the work. You understand modern technologies well enough to make strong architectural, operational and vendor decisions, without needing to be hands-on in every tool.
- Several years of proven experience as an Internal IT Manager, preferably in infrastructure-heavy, complex or regulated environments.
- Strong understanding of infrastructure, cloud, endpoint, identity, security operations, automation and modern workplace technologies.
- Strong people leadership skills, with the ability to guide, grow and structure a team.
- Confident communicator who can interact with business stakeholders, technical teams, Security, Product Engineering and external partners.
- A pragmatic automation mindset and a strong drive to simplify operational work.
- Ability to keep strategic overview while being comfortable discussing technical and operational details.
- Minimum C1 level in Dutch and English, both spoken and written.
